Hi, my first ever breeding. I know practically nothing about it. Can anyone say anything about the condition of the mushrooms? It was 14 days from planting to harvest. Was that too long or too short? I harvested them today because smaller ones followed and the stalks got spots. I thought I'd better harvest them now before they go moldy.

This is what the box looked like after the harvest. Funnily enough, the mushrooms have only grown around the edges.

Hello!

They didn't make it through the top layer, perhaps too thick or too wet or not wet enough. Copelandia is not a beginner's mushroom! The spots will be spore spots, you should always harvest BEFORE the caps open so that no spores fall out and make spots.

Copelandia mushrooms are stronger than "normal Mexicans". 1g dry can be quite a strong dose (like 3-4g "normal") and the microdose is about 0.02-0.05g, which is difficult to weigh, you should stir them powdered in honey to be able to dose them sensibly!

Do the dark spots bother you?

I only harvested my Copelandia about 36 hours after opening the caps, because I read that they are still form psilocybin.

@david Hi David, thanks for the information! Another problem was that the mushrooms grew unevenly. And you can't take the box out of the bag without damaging the mushrooms. Because they say you should stop spraying when the pins appear, take the box out and then put water in the bag. If you want to harvest the big ones now, you will only damage the others. I sprayed water anyway, but only on the inside of the bag.

You may also have to crumble the topsoil finer and rub it with your hands.

Now some fruiting bodies are following. Picture attached. I also have two GT boxes where you are not supposed to add water. In the meantime the substrate has contracted so that there is a gap to the edge but no pins in sight yet.

LG

Hello!

With Copelandia, water is never added to the bag, but always sprayed, right from the start: take the box out 3 times a day, spray the inside of the bag, put the box in.

NEVER spray directly onto the box after the first wetting on the first day! If you have done this then this is the reason why no mushrooms have grown on the top soil.

Snap off large mushrooms and harvest them before they open their caps.

If the substrate contracts without pins, something is wrong.

Nice pictures, taken from the side so that the whole bag can be seen in the picture.

PS: Especially for Mexicans: never photograph from the top down into the open bag, this contaminates heavily. This is the way to get the most contamination into the bag in the shortest time. It is not so problematic with Copelandia. Nevertheless, it's a bad habit that you should get out of straight away: ALWAYS take pictures from the side!

Hi, David. So it's only day 8 after setting up. Since yesterday, 2 small pins have formed on the first box. In the picture you can see how the substrate has come away from the edge. This seems to have encouraged the fungus to grow. You are supposed to wait 12 days and then put the box upright if I remember correctly. Should I take the box out of the bag to take a photo?

@markus123 You don't have to put them upright, but you can if there are no mushrooms after 12-14 days.

The cake contracts and pushes water into the bumps, which are called "mushrooms", causing them to grow. When mushrooms grow, do not place them upright to avoid tearing them off.

If possible, always leave the box in the bag and do not ventilate this type of kit, the perforation allows enough air in.

When photographing, it is best to take the picture from a distance so that the entire bag is in the picture and photograph it from the side.

So the mushrooms, the Copelandia, are still growing and I've already harvested them for the fifth time 🙂 and there are still more mushrooms coming in. I dried the whole thing and processed it into powder. I then got myself an ultra free weigher. My attempts to find a microdose were 0.1g; 0.05g; and 0.025.

As it is still clearly noticeable at 0.025, I will test 0.01g next. You shouldn't notice any change, as I understand it, and at 0.01g I would have more than enough microdoses for 1 year. Optimal, actually. That was exactly what I wanted to achieve. And the costs for the breeding set are really minimal in comparison.
