Servus,

I have opened a new topic to keep the pinned topic for "general questions" clean.

I am new to mushroom growing and this is my first experience that I am sharing with you and there will be questions in between. Some of you are welcome to add your tips and tricks here.

Here you can see my kit setup. The solution with the bottles is stable and works. (The bag version was a bit gruesome, but is no longer available).
I harvested one crop from the large box, but I harvested too late. This was now acknowledged with dark spots. Then a day or two later I also harvested the small mushrooms and small mushrooms tried to grow "inside" the box wall. I then tried to take the cake out of the box to pick them too. This was quite difficult because the cake was already very squashed. So one part crumbled. I think it's ruined. I picked some leftover mushrooms today and they have started to go moldy.
So my question is: does it make sense to remove the substrate right at the beginning and place it upright in the box? I found the answer here https://pilzezauber.info/community/postid/25/

I harvested mushrooms like this from the small box today. The question here is whether I need to take the cake out to see if there are any other mushrooms trying to squeeze out?

When do you clean the mushrooms? Before or after drying? Do you cut something off the stem or do you scrape down the substrate?

Best regards
