Recipe (Without)

630 g coconut substrate pressed as bricks.
630 g Vermiculite dry
110 g plaster
4650 ml boiling water (possibly 200-300 ml less), if not pasteurized in the oven afterwards.
Pasteurize the resulting substrate for 3 hours at 140 degrees in a gastronorm container in the oven.

Into the substrate prepared in this way, I add a mixture of 1 part grain spawn to 3 parts substrate.

Before I inoculate the substrate with the KB, I pasteurize it in the oven at 140 degrees for 3 hours and then leave it to cool in the oven for several hours.

So, that's more like sterilizing - right? Pasteurizing means keeping at >60°C but below 80°C. Is that possible? Otherwise it is always sterilized in a pressure cooker at 2 bar and 121°C for 30-60 minutes...

Yes, maybe it is already a sterilization. Just not under pressure. It works well for me, I have to do it this way because I would only get this amount of substrate into the pressure cooker with many passes.

What do you use to press the coconut substrate into a brick, do you have a device for this?

This is how it is delivered. The fact that it is pressed as a brick should make it clear that this is about the dry weight of the coco substrate.

I didn't know kokus fiber before, now I have a few blocks lying around here 🙂

What is the plaster in the recipe for?
