Hello everyone,
If truffles smell strong, are they still good and safe? Or should we dispose of them?
They are also black, but I'm guessing oxidation?
Kind regards
Stefan
So if it deviates significantly from what you are used to, in the direction of "actually not that tasty at all", I would probably no longer eat it. Mushrooms that are not well-dried and poorly stored cause diarrhea for about a day.
@photon We haven't tried them yet. We had ordered four packs of truffles with 15g each. I cut open the pack in question because I wanted to use it for tripping, but then used a different pack. I then closed the first one with a clip and put it back in the fridge. The next day the truffles were black. I didn't smell them beforehand when I opened them, so I can't compare them. The truffles from the other packs were definitely not as black but rather light to dark brown.
The dark color comes from the psilcybin, as does the sour taste. In the open bag it also happens quite quickly in the fridge, but they are not "rotten". When they rot, they become mushy and smell awful (even through the sealed bag). The "black" is simply very dark blue from the "blueing" of the magic mushrooms and sclerotia.
